Charaxes smaragdalis is a beautiful blue butterfly from the African continent where it is found in dry forested areas. Butterflies are beautiful insects and pollinators. They are a good indicator of environmental health; butterflies are fragile creatures and quick to respond to changes in their environment. Butterflies are an important food source in the early stages of their life as well. ‘Butterfly Conservation’ estimate that in Britain, Blue tits eat 50 billion moth caterpillars each year!
