Display: Wall mounting or self standing.

Acherontia atropos was popularised by the Hannibal Lecter film ‘Silence of the Lambs’. The skull-like marking on its thorax are likely the reason behind this species being considered an omen of death, pestilence and all kinds of other happy things. People have nothing to fear from this moth though, but honeybees on the other hand might. The death’s-head hawkmoth is known to enter honeybee hives. It does so avoiding detection by excreting a compound similar to the scent of a honeybee. While in the hive it feeds on honey.

An Acherontia atropos specimen in a premium open grain wooden frame. The scientific and common names are printed on acid free card and the frame is sealed with silicone to keep the specimens safe from hungry museum beetles and other such pests.
